She Had a Question. She Couldn't Ask.

A Backstory from our journey to building SuperMummy - a YouTube channel with 100mn+ reach in Bharat

June, 2018, Rajasthan.

Ajmer. Summer. The kind of heat that makes the air feel solid.

She came with her father-in-law. Small handkerchief in her hand. Perspiring. Waiting.

The ward was crammed. Six people within earshot. Every conversation — between doctor and patient — heard by everyone. No privacy. No pause. No space for the question that was too personal, too frightening, too uncertain to ask in front of strangers.

When her turn came, the doctor was already asking the next question before she'd finished answering the first. Sab theek hai. Everything is fine. The woman behind her was already stepping forward.

Fears, doubts, questions — returned home with her. Unanswered.

She quietly folded her prescription and put it in her bag.

I sat in wards from Jaipur to Alwar to Jhunjhunu for two weeks before SuperMummy made a single video.

Different women. Same moment. The question that never got asked.

I had never been pregnant. I had never given birth. I didn't know what the videos should say or who should say them.

All I knew was this — the right information, at the right moment, can save a life. So, I went to find out.

We called the format Dr Se Poocho. Ask the doctor.

One question. Her question. A doctor who answers it completely — in whatever time it actually takes. No padding. No asking anything in return.

Because she doesn't have time to be padded. She has a question. She needs it answered.

92 lakh times in the last month alone, someone searched for a pregnancy question on YouTube and watched a SuperMummy video.

Our short videos retain 107% of viewers. Because every question is the answer she was already searching for.

She just finally found someone to ask.

984 videos. Eight years.

The same choice, made the same way, every time.

We were not trying to grow. We were trying to answer.

You cannot speak to someone's life if you have never bothered to look at it.
